sharing the joys of life in each lovely thing

and celebrate, we did.

Last weekend we had our nieces over for the very first time. I was anxious, excited, and nervous – all at the same time. But I guess if you’ve been with me since the start of my blogging journey, you probably knew that.

They are two amazing little girls, and are so well behaved. They do like to play-flight (which is totally different from my sister and I at that age. Actually I don’t remember liking fighting all that much). But they know when we say it’s time to stop, we mean it. They were two lovely ladies, helping us out with dinner, picking out a movie, and enjoying some s’mores. ( we do spoil them, and not only with food, mind you).

In the middle of the movie, the fireworks started just outside of our window, so the four of us ran outside, in our pajamas and all, carrying our s’mores, and spent a good 10 minutes just looking at the sky. The girls had a blast. We got them to watch “The Nightmare before Christmas”, but we don’t really know just how much they enjoyed it ( we certainly did!).

The next morning they woke up, helped me set up the table and enjoyed an amazing breakfast. They took their showers, and after a pampering session ( a.k.a. brushing their hair, and slapping some screen on them) we were ready to go.

walking

The fair is about a 5 minute walk from our house, so walk we did. The girls were listening to all the music, and asking Uncle B. about what to expect. I was lagging behind toting a big bag with all our necessities (read more sun screen, water, cardigans, etc).

We took a moment to look at the dog long distance jump contest, and the girls got to ride on their uncle’s shoulder. I ended up walking around a bit and soon the girls got tired of the pups, and off we went to the rides.

The fair happens every year, but this year I knew we had to take our nieces with us. It’s that much more exciting when you have children with you. Last year we pretty much just went in for the concert, so I don’t really even remember going to any rides. At the time we thought most of them were too expensive, so we gave up. But with the girls, we actually just went in for the rides – we never even saw the main stage.

The first couple of rides went down fast, with the two of them asking us to join them. They were at just the right height for most of the rides, but for some they needed to have adults with them. They were specially fond of going on the Ferris Wheel, and there’s no way I’d let them go without at least one of us. So, we ended up getting passes for the rest of the day as well.

The day was spent giggling our hearts out, having an amazing time, protecting ourselves from the sun (well, mostly me being paranoid), enjoying scares  on the roller coaster and eating food that would make their mom cringe. But not all that bad – we did walk around all day! They were balls of energy. Getting them to sit still after lunch took a lot of convincing, they were ready to go.

After they went home the hubs and I fell like potato sacks on our couch and stayed there for a solid hour, just recovering, resting our feet. We were thankful for all the memories of that day. One of them even said that this was “the best day of her life”. Till now, because there a many, many more places we plan on taking them to, so we still have lots to celebrate.
